Homeowner insurance is not just covering your home, it’s more than that. This type of insurance is purchased in a package policy. This mean, it covers both damage to your property and liability or legal responsibility for any injury and property damage to other people that is caused by you or your household. It also covers damage by your pets.

There are four different types of coverage in the standard homeowner’s insurance policy. They include:

1. The cover for your home’s structure. If you home is been destroyed and damage by plumbing leak, storms, vandalism, or fire, this coverage pays to rebuild or repair you home. This type of coverage covers most of disasters with some exceptions such as damage cause by earthquakes, floods, or poor maintenance. You must purchase them separately if you feel you need this coverage, or you live in an area where there is an earthquake or flood. It is very crucial that you purchase enough coverage to rebuild or repair your house when you purchase homeowners insurance.

2. The cover for your personal possession. Your personal property will be replaced by this coverage if your properties – furniture, clothes, electronics, and appliances – are damage by vandalism, storm, plumbing leaks, fire or when they are stolen. Standard policies may not cover expensive items like computer, artwork, or jewelry, but if you need to, you can increase your coverage on these items. Plants, trees, and shrubs are also covered by this policy as long as they were harmed by insurable hazards. If the damage occurred from disease or wind, they are not covered. Usually, the coverage is 5% of the insurance on your home.

3. Your assets (Liability protection). This coverage will pay damages if someone hurts himself on your property and sues you. It also pays for your court costs and legal fees. It covers your, members of you family, or your pets anywhere in the world, too.

4. Additional living expenses if momentarily you are can’t live in you house because of an insured disaster. This coverage will pay compensation for your additional living expenses, such as hotel bills, restaurant bills, laundry bills, etc. if you have to live outside of your home because your home is destroyed or damage and have to be rebuilt or repaired due to the insured disaster. This coverage helps you to maintain your common standard of living.

It is highly recommended by home insurance experts that you purchase protection worth of at least $300,000. You also can purchase excess liability policy or an umbrella. This type of policy also covers you for libel claims or slander. The cost of this policy is range from $200 to $300 for every $1 million of additional coverage.
